It’s time for another installment of my bi-weekly email series. In each issue, I share three resources that I have found to be helpful for myself and/or my clients. As a former librarian and a current voracious gatherer of helpful information, I’m constantly listening to podcasts, reading books and articles, and watching various videos that spark my interest.
Fear is one of our four basic emotions. Yet we consider it to be shameful to experience fear. We can hardly even say the “f word.” We often call fear stress as stress doesn’t seem shameful. Find out how we are manipulated by fear and how to change your relationship to fear and stress.
I read this book, All About Love, when it first came out and I remember being profoundly moved by it. It popped up again last week in my book list and I thought it would be an excellent book for you all to check out. In this age of hate and fear, we are all crying out for love in one form or another. From the amazon.com review, “As Bell Hooks uses her incisive mind and razor-sharp pen to explore the question “What is love?” her answers strike at both the mind and heart. In thirteen concise chapters, hooks examines her own search for emotional connection and society’s failure to provide a model for learning to love. Razing the cultural paradigm that the ideal love is infused with sex and desire, she provides a new path to love that is sacred, redemptive, and healing for individuals and for a nation.”

There is still more liberation to attain but the Stonewall Riot marked a “before and after” in gay history.
